You can take a screen shot of your desktop by pressing the Print Screen button on your keyboard. You can also take a screen shot of just the current window by pressing Alt+Print Screen.

Doing that puts the the image on your clipboard. You can now go to Paint or Word and hit Ctrl+v or right click and click past and you should see your image.
